On
Camera
This
interesting article features young people from Barnsley
who have produced a short film composed of sketches,
music videos and short dramatic pieces. It's called
'Big Night In' and gives a youth perspective on life
in Barnsley. Young people were involved in all aspects
of the video-making process and all learnt new skills.
This film gave them the opportunity to have their voices
heard in the community. Dave Tomalin who directed the
video talks about what he got out of the experience
on pages 32-33. There is also information on how your
group could apply for funding and support to produce
their own video through the First Light scheme.

Cash
in Hand
Young
people in South Armagh wanted to be able to make a positive
contribution to local communities. This article describes
the solution, a young people's Grant-Giving Group, which
has been set up to award grants to fund young people
to develop projects in their local area. The group is
made up of young people aged 14-25 and will be supporting
the young people involved to develop their skills as
grant-givers. They will learn how to assess and monitor
small grants. Michael McKenna gives all the details
of this exciting project on pages 30-31.

Rural
resources
Across
the country, youth workers are setting up projects to
bring youth work resources to young people in rural
areas. In this issue Janet Watson talks to youth workers
about the challenges that they have to face. Common
problems are concerns about transport, access and lack
of resources. Janet discusses these issues with youth
workers in various situations on pages 13-15.
